PART III: THE PRACTICE OF PRAYER
CHAPTER 15
A BIBLICAL DEFINITION OF PRAYER
Prayer is communication with God. It is both talking and
listening. We are commanded to pray:
And take the helmet of salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of
God: Praying always with all prayer and
supplication in the Spirit, and watching
thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints; (Ephesians
6:17-18).
Furthermore, we are commanded to pray continually:
Pray without ceasing. (1 Thessalonians
5:17).
Praying continually does not mean that we are to mouth words 24
hours a day. It includes regular prayer and being continually
open to hear the voice of the Lord. In computer terms, it would
be having our modems on and connected to God's BBS--ready to
receive any message that he might send.
